Update/correction — 8/19/2020 – Ocasio-Cortez didn’t “snub” Biden as was widely reported early on. Her nomination of Bernie Sanders was a procedural issue and she wished Joe Biden well on Twitter after her speech. Clarification of her comments can be seen in a Tweet she posted shortly after her initial remarks. (and seen below) – Ryan L.
If you were confused, no worries!
Convention rules require roll call & nominations for every candidate that passes the delegate threshold.
I was asked to 2nd the nom for Sen. Sanders for roll call.

Controversial progressive New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made clear on Tuesday night that her wing of the Democratic party is not interested in endorsing a mainstream Democrat like former Vice President Joe Biden, instead using her 90-second appearance to throw her endorsement behind Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders for the nomination.
“I hereby second the nomination of Senator Bernard Sanders of Vermont for President of the United States of America,” Ocasio-Cortez said.
You can watch her endorsement of Sanders in the video clip below:

The snub will likely anger a number of Democratic voters, as the second night of the DNC was supposed to revolve around a theme of the “old guard” of the Democratic establishment proving that they’re in with the new class of ultra-progressivers, like AOC and other members of “The Squad.”
Reaction on Twitter in the minutes since she made the announcement was mixed, with many criticizing her and some praising her for remaining loyal to the Sanders camp.
.@AOC was smart, polished, passionate and seemed like she's been doing this forever. A natural. We forget she's only been in politics for 2 years. How silly to only give her 60 seconds. Shaking my head here. #DemConvention
